Protec receives K2

UAE: Production Technology (Protec) has received its first shipment of L-Acoustics K2 speakers. The initial consignment of 36 cabinets has made it to the rental company’s Dubai warehouse with a second shipment of the same number set to join it before the end of 2014.
Protec has made the investment to directly replace its V-Dosc system. ‘We’ve had various systems over the last 15 years since I started the business, but about five years ago now we took our first V-Dosc system and since then we’ve decided to become an L-Acoustics house,’ said Protec’s Steve Lakin. ‘Their systems that cover all of our requirements and we’ve got a huge amount of L-Acoustics now.
‘K2 is a wonderful system, it’s beautifully engineered,’ continued Mr Lakin. ‘We try to keep on top of technology as a company generally. It’s one of the best engineered systems available, the cabinet size and weight are right – everything about it is right. We got a very positive recommendation on it from SSE in the UK which was one of the early users. SSE has always been a company that we trust – we’ve worked with them in the past and used some of their people when we’ve been really busy – I respect the company, I think it’s got a lot going for it. So after getting SSE’s opinions about K2, we ordered it within a few days.’
Mr Lakin believes K2 is the perfect system to cover typical audience sizes in Dubai both in the live concert and corporate markets. ‘Unlike a lot of markets, corporate gigs for audiences of around 2,000 to 2,500 people isn’t uncommon in Dubai. Any gig above 1,000 people is really where we are going to be putting it,’ he explained. ‘A big audience for a concert in Dubai is 20,000, an average audience is 12,000 to 13,000, and K2 is ideal for these sizes. We seem to be back into rock and roll at the moment. We’re doing the vast majority of the Dubai rock and roll now and K2 will be used there. I believe that rock and roll will be about 25 per cent of the usage of our K2 system. We have lots of work coming up so it should be out in the field pretty soon.’
