Qatar TV sticks with Lawo

QATAR: Qatar TV has chosen to install a Lawo audio, video and control infrastructure in its two new OB trucks. The Doha-based broadcaster has been using the German manufacturer’s solutions for both OB and at its broadcast centre since 2012.
The two new vehicles, built by Sony Professional Solutions MEA, have each been equipped with a 24-fader mc²36 audio console, Dallis I/O stageboxes, an A__madi4 audio-to-IP interface and a V__pro8 video processor and router. Lawo’s VSM (Virtual Studio Manager) redundantly provides control over the entire setup.
Qatar TV uses the V__pro8 primarily for audio embedding and de-embedding, as well as format conversion and colour correction. This, along with the mc²36 and A__madi4, is designed to save on rack space, making it particularly suited to OB vehicles. VSM manages production workflows and enables the transition from baseband to IP.
The broadcaster has replied upon mc²56 consoles and VSM in the pair of OB vans it commissioned in 2012. During the same year, it opened its broadcast centre with Master Control Room (MCR), Central Apparatus Room (CAR), 450m² News Studio, 1,013m² Production Studio and Edit Studios solutions, three mc²56 consoles, a redundant Nova73 HD central router and VSM.
