Radio PiliPili turns to AEQ

KENYA: Radio PiliPili has selected AEQ technology to equip its new central radio studios in Mombassa with two studios (one for transmission and one for production) and one central technical room as master control.

AEQ has designed both studios using its new 12-fader Forum compact digital radio mixer. These have been installed into AEQ’s technical studio furniture along with various playout machines microphones, GPS clocks, headphones, and loudspeakers. In order to reduce the installation period in Kenya, AEQ prepared the equipment in Madrid before shipping all the technical cabling kits associated with the project.

The central control room has been designed as a space where all the audio signals can be controlled, and also serves as a switching and interconnection point between both radio studios as well as with remote locations including OB vans, other studios or STL to transmitter sites. AEQ has designed this MCR using an Impact digital audio router working in parallel with the Caddy A/D-D/A multichannel converter, so all the audio can be controlled in a centralised way. Additionally, several patchpanels and auxiliary audio and modulation monitors, have been installed for maintenance and supervision.

The final pieces of equipment for Radio PiliPili are an AEQ Arrow 30W UHF band radiolink system to connect with the OB vans, as well as several hand-held Paw120 digital recorders.

AEQ in collaboration with its local partner sent a technical team to Mombassa for two weeks to take responsibility of the installation, configuration, tests and start-up phases of the system.
