SARA hosts successful LETPC 2015

SOUTH AFRICA: The South African Roadies Association (SARA) has successfully hosted Africa’s first ever Live Event Technical & Production Conference. The conference was supported by South Africa’s Department of Arts and Culture, the event’s anchor sponsor, and the keynote address was delivered by the minister of Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa.

The main purpose of the conference, now planned to be an annual event, is to gather relevant stakeholders, professionals and practitioners in the events, technical, production and education sectors, along with international market leaders, to discuss the need for a critical upgrade of skills development, sector training and skill interventions. Currently, the sector’s skill qualification is only at matriculation level and SARA president, Freddie Nyathela, hopes the conference will help to increase this qualification to at least NQF 5 in order to match international standards.

The conference covered a variety of subjects from job creation to equipment manufacturer training and investments in the country as well as from entry level on-the-job training programme management to sector development. There were also a variety of international speakers brought in for the event from markets such as the UK, Australia and Germany.
