SOUTH AFRICA: Shure wireless microphone and in-ear monitor systems were supplied by MGG Productions for the recent Afrikaans is Groot music show in Pretoria. Led by project manager Denzil Smith, MGG Productions was the sole technical supplier of audio and lighting.
Organised by Coleske Artists, the Johannesburg leg of the production was held at the Moreletapark Auditorium in Pretoria with a seating capacity of more than 7,000 people. One of the most popular Afrikaans music productions, the show reportedly attracted the cream of the South African music industry with artists like Juanita Du Plessis, Riana Nel, Bobby van Jaarsveld, EDEN, Dewald Wasserfall, Arno Jordaan and others.
With constantly changing sets, a large number of Shure wireless microphones and in-ear monitors were required. Local Shure importer and distributor Wild & Marr was on-hand to provide additional technical support during pre-production.
In total, the production made use of 20 channels of PSM 900, six channels of PSM 700 and six channels of PSM 1000. Wireless microphones used included 42 channels of UR4-D as well as six channels of Axient for the key artists.
RF engineer and stage and microphone tech Jaco Beukes from MGG commented: ‘Shure again provided a perfect performance due to its RF reliability. We made great use of Shure’s Wireless Workbench, which ensured that the RF was always stable.’
‘There is always great excitement surrounding the technical aspects of the show and then such an enjoyable moment when you see the whole production come together,’ added Andrew Sorrill, sales and marketing manager at Wild & Marr.
