Spin Dubai mixes Harman with ping-pong

UAE: Equipment from Harman brands JBL, Crown, BSS and AKG supplied by GSL Professional LLC were recently installed into Spin Dubai by Feedback Professional Dubai. GSL’s technical executive Georgi Hristov completed the design, project management and commissioning of the system for the venue, which is a bar, restaurant and club with ping-pong facilities.
The project took approximately eight months to complete, which saw 12 JBL C65P/T compact full range pendant speakers, eight Control 47 HC-PL ceiling speakers, two AM5212/64 speakers, two PRX618S-XLF subwoofers, two Control 24CT MicroPlus in-ceiling speakers, four AM5215/95s and four 25AV-WHs installed throughout the bar.
‘A nice touch is the way the speakers were placed horizontally due to the fairly low ceilings and the way they blend into the black ceilings,’ said Glen Kershaw, sales manager at GSL. ‘Clients don’t want to see the speakers as much these days, just hear them.
‘JBL gives a clear and crisp sound at both low and high volumes,’ he added. ‘Early evening, Spin is a restaurant catering to those who wish to dine/play ping-pong with subtle BGM playing, whereas at around 11pm, Spin dims the lights and it turns into a club-type venue. The DJ then has the option to pump up the volume, which the JBL speakers can handle easily.’
Amplification is provided by two CT 8150 and two XTi4002s from Crown, whilst a BSS Blu-100 provides signal processing, a BLU-8v2 provides zone control, and a BSS Blu Bob-2 breakout box output expander provides further support. AKG mics include two WMS 40 mini instrument ISM2s, a Perception Wireless Vocal Set Band A mic and a Perception Wireless sports set. GSL also supplied two Pioneer CDJ2000s and a DJM900 mixer, four ADJ Vizibeam 5R fixtures and an ADJ DMX 512 controller.
‘The client knew JBL and Harman products and felt comfortable in having these installed within Spin,’ explained Mr Kershaw. ‘Having GSL close by for any technical support and/or stock if upgrades are needed is always an added bonus in this region.
‘The client is very happy and the customer feedback has been great on both Spin and the system used within,’ he added. ‘Everybody likes this new concept, which Dubai needed. Most clubs in Dubai and in the world have a similar feel but the whole ping-pong element alongside eating and drinking has really started to show a new funky side, especially to the MEA.’
