SuperSport extends OB fleet with RTS

SOUTH AFRICA: South African pay-TV provider SuperSport has recently equipped its new outside broadcast vehicle (OB4HD) with a substantial intercom system from RTS in order to ensure flawless communication between all members of its crew. OB4HD was equipped to be multi-functional by Sony Professional Solutions Europe and will be used by SuperSport primarily to provide live coverage for sporting events.

The ‘nerve centre’ of the high-tech control room is provided by an Advanced Digital Audio Matrix (ADAM) from RTS linked to a variety of RTS keypanels, the models in question being 24 KP-12-CLDs, 12 DKP-16-CLDs, four KP-32-CLD, three KP-32s, one KP-32-CLD and one KP-12. Meanwhile, a wireless RTS belt-pack system (comprising three BTR-800s and 12 TR-800s), a two-wire intercom system made up of two DSI 2008s and six BP-325s and a total of 69 RTS MH headsets further secure communications within and beyond the OB vehicle.

‘We had already successfully shipped a number of OB trucks to South Africa that have served there with distinction, which was doubtless the reason we obtained this latest commission from SuperSport,’ commented Gerhard Strydom, manager of broadcast sales and marketing with Sony South Africa (Pty) Ltd.

The RTS systems were selected according to Mr Strydom, and also because SuperSport’s existing fleet were already equipped with RTS equipment. ‘All the systems on board the OB4HD wagon deliver outstanding sound quality,’ enthused Mr Strydom.

The feedback from Johan Chandler, the head of SuperSport’s outside broadcast department, is reported to have been ‘excellent,’ and Sony Professional Solutions Europe is already working on two additional outside broadcast vehicles for SuperSport South Africa.
