UAE: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is responsible for managing Dubai’s public transport including the Dubai Metro, Dubai Taxi, Dubai Bus and Waterways as well as traffic management in the city. RTA succeeded in its mission to keep traffic safely managed based on timely and extensive preparations for the launch of its Operational Plan for Public Transit Means and Traffic Management to mark the New Year’s celebrations in Dubai. Key to this was the new control room which was equipped by Visionaire.
Part of the preparation programme was to initiate extensive discussion during workshops and upgrade the Crisis Management Center at the RTA. This meant it could visually monitor camera feeds that were coming in from event venues and metro stations to ensure that the RTA Crisis Management Team was able to visualize the traffic flow and manage crisis situations remotely.
The Crisis Mangement Control Room at the RTA HQ was awarded to Visionaire with a fast track three-week window in which the video wall system and video processor and feeds management control system was to be designed and built.
Visionaire worked closely with the client requirements and technical brief to ensure delivery of a four by three flat panel video wall using Samsung’s LFD and a high powered video processor that is receives inputs from various feeds coming into crisis management operator stations.
‘Visionaire has built a unique ICT Single-Integrated-System (SIS) approach called “Technomics” which allows us to work closely with client technology teams, key stakeholders and vendor partners to achieve what many others would consider extra-ordinary or impossible,’ said Visionaire president and CEO, Aneeta Gupta. ‘Technomics SIS helps Visionaire keep track and manage every aspect of the technology program management function from design, to procurement, to build and manage which results in our being able to achieve the sometimes impossible deadlines.’
‘We, at the RTA’s Crisis Management Team, are on standby for any emergency that may occur any time. The RTA operates an extensive network of public transport including the Dubai Metro, public buses and marine transport along with the affiliated installations such as metro and public bus stations, bridges, tunnels and other operational infrastructure,’ said Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, head of the crisis management team cum CEO of Licensing Agency.
‘The availability of easily accessible information, data and facts would enable the Crisis Management Teams at any entity to predict potential crises, by identifying and extrapolating risks,’ he continued. ‘Decision-makers dealing with the crisis also need to draft and analyse alternative scenarios in advance and adopt appropriate ones, in order to secure and maintain the vital interests. It should also be taken into account that the task of preparing the scenario is not that easy, as it is based on estimating events and rates of escalation, in addition to practical training. Its success depends mainly the expertise for the Head of the Team along with the members, technical know-how, special abilities and correct judgment,’ he added.
