Yamaha gets a workout at Elevation Fitness

UAE: Based in Jumeirah Lake Tower’s cluster Y complex, Elevation Fitness is dedicated to raising the fitness levels of its local residents and workers. The fitness centre specialises in training and consultancy for weight loss, muscle building, strength, conditioning and sports endurance. Likewise, the recently installed audio system is firmly in tune with its environment, playing a central role in pumping out foreground music to its members.

Thomsun Trading supplied a Yamaha loudspeaker system consisting of eight VXS8 wall mounted cabinets to deliver the required high octane SPLs each day of the week, from early morning until late into the evening. To the staff on duty – such as Sheffield-born Keval Kotecha – it simply has to work without it becoming a distraction from their personal training and supervision.

Split into four zones – studio, office, washrooms and main gymnasium – control and management of the system can be applied from the DCP4V4S wall mount controller, although the preferred method is via the wireless DCP application installed into the staff’s Android and iOS devices. ‘I don’t understand and don’t need to know how these audio systems work, but it’s easy to adjust the source or the volume via the app on my phone,’ attested Mr Kotecha.

Out of view from Mr Kotecha in a rear control room is the heart of the system – a Yamaha MTX3-DSP and matrix processor – which has been configured and programmed for Elevation Fitness using MTX Editor software. The 8x8 analogue processor integrates Yamaha’s proprietary YDIF cascade bus – together with an SD playback for a 26x8 matrix – to create a 16-channel audio and word clock transmission bus via Cat-5 Ethernet cabling channel. In essence, Dante technology can enable CIS systems to share audio with up to 40 subnets using the Audinate Netspander to merge with other audio systems. The MTX3 processor is connected to a compatible XMV8280 8-channel amplifier powering the loudspeakers in all four zones. The feedback suppressor automatically locates and eliminates acoustic feedback, whilst auto gain control maintains a constant output level when input signals vary. In addition, an ambient noise compensator adjusts system gain to compensate for fluctuating BGM levels.

The washrooms, office and studio are equipped with VXC6 ceiling speakers for BGM and paging. Fitted with a dedicated bracket, the speakers can be mounted temporarily allowing the installer to adjust the angles, which can then be configured by the gear guides in the bracket connectors. A CD-C600 CD changer is the preferred source at the start of this Yamaha audio signal chain.
