Zebra & Giraffe tour with Qu-16

SOUTH AFRICA: In preparation for the release of their brand new album, Zebra & Giraffe recently completed a string of stripped down, unplugged shows across South Africa. Accompanying the band on this tour was an Allen & Heath Qu-16 console.

‘The band made the decision on the Qu-16 because they had used Allen & Heath products before on past tours and were very happy with the quality of sound,’ explained Gareth Kelbrick, assistant engineer/backline tech for the band. ‘A big factor was size, we were doing a stripped down tour and had limited space in the trailer so a smaller desk that still catered for our 10 sends, two to the PA and eight to the four stereo IEM's was perfect for us.’

According to Mr Kelbrick, the desk provided many advantages for the tour. ‘The 12 outputs for sure along with the ease of connecting the D-snake via Cat-5 were the main advantages,’ he explained. ‘The pre amps sound great, they’re crystal clear and much warmer than other desks occupying that market at the moment. I also loved the FX on board, I used all four FX engines running reverbs and delay and the ADT doubler on vocals and guitar was awesome. The Qu-drive system worked so smoothly too, we recorded a few of the shows multi tracking direct into Pro Tools on a MacBook Pro which took matter of minutes to setup.

‘I would definitely recommend it to any upcoming tours the Qu-16 is a fantastic console that is very easy to use, this was my first time using any of Allen & Heath's digital consoles and I was able to navigate it with ease right from the start,’ concluded Mr Kelbrick.
