Orban’s iMix 5.1 headphone monitor is the ‘first surround headphone system in the world that doesn't rely on an artificial ambiance or special encoding to create 5.1 surround in headphones’ claims the manufacturer. One of the first products to be launched under the Orban brand since its acquisition by DaySequerra, iMix 5.1 features the latter’s DSX Headphone Surround algorithm as well as the most recent version of the ITU-R BS.1770 loudness measurement algorithm.
Compatible with any type of headphones, the headphone monitor doesn’t require individual HRTF (head-related transfer function) calibration or any special setup. Proprietary surround encoding is also not needed, as the device is designed to accurately render a discrete and stable 5.1 sound stage by itself. It includes rendered test tone locations with the likes of BLITS tones (Black and Lanes' Ident Tones for Surround providing absolute image integrity without the requirement of artificial ambience. Inputs include AES on BNC connectors and a built-in webserver, while users have the option to add balanced analogue and HD-SDI inputs.
