Added Xcellence in the form of the X12CLA

Fulfilling the requirement for a smaller, lighter and more affordable cabinet, Amate Audio’s first constant curvature array falls into a category below the twin 8-inch X208 line-array.
Optimised for the X12CLA, a specially-designed isophasic waveguide with a 2.5-inch voice coil and neodymium magnet driver reportedly achieves even long throw dispersion, whilst maintaining consistent frequency and directivity. Coupled to a new single 12-inch LF driver offering frequency response down to 58Hz, the waveguide provides the required 15-degrees constant vertical directivity. Whilst achieving the signal quality with the desired vertical directivity, Amate Audio’s design exceeded the intended SPL levels. According to the Barcelona-based manufacturer, this has resulted in the waveguide being matched to a more powerful LF driver, thus increasing the amplifier power rating by over 50 per cent. Housed in a multilayer Baltic birch plywood cabinet, the compact curvature array is finished in a high resistant black Polyurea coating.
Amate states that the X12CLA can be deployed as a cluster element in applications where a controlled, narrow horizontal dispersion is required. More commonly found in its array configuration, the X12CLA enables 15-, 30-, 45- or 60-degrees vertical directivity with one two, three or four cabinets respectively. Inter-cabinet connection is set via lateral rigging bars, providing a 15-degree fixed angle between cabinets. Weighing 31.5kg and capable of producing 129dB continuous SPL output, the cabinet can be flown, stacked or pole mounted on a sub. Additionally, a proprietary rigging system has been integrated into the recessed carrying handle.
Integrated digital electronics include 24-bit/96kHz AD/DA converters and remote controllable 48-bit/96kHz DSP matched with 1,500W Class-D bi-amplification. Amate’s Windows or iPad based DSP Studio 2 software provides Ethernet and Wi-Fi control of gain, crossover filters, limiters, polarity, delay, PEQ and other parameters. The software provides information about the amplifier status, including input and output levels, heat-sink temperature, clip and protection indications. An over-voltage protection circuit continuously monitors line voltage, instantly disconnecting the system when line voltage exceeds maximum permitted levels, for which the system automatically restarts when voltage returns to normal.
