Alcons Audio has unveiled its CSS3 digital cinema surround system and its Q-series scalable ribbon array.
The CSS3 is designed to be used with the CR1 and CB181s subwoofer to form a package suitable for small to medium home theatres, cinemas, screening rooms and post-production studios.
Producing a wide frequency response, a 16-ohm impedance enables powering of up to 16 units (2-ohms) on an ALC amplified loudspeaker controller (two channels driven). The system includes dedicated (passive) filtering and system equalisation. The manufacturer reports the 10-degree slanted baffle and 90-degrees horizontal dispersion ‘result in smooth LF/HF blending in installations where the surrounds are mounted closely to the audience’.
The Q-series comprises five models; The QR18 and QR36 full range line-source columns, the QM18 and QM36 line-source fill columns, and the QB363 line source bass column.
The series is suitable for use for longer distances in acoustically challenging environments. Featuring full-range cylindrical radiation, Alcons describes its system as ‘producing a combination of the throw of a J-curved line-array system with the ease-of-use of a traditional point-source loudspeaker’.
When used in multiples, they form a continuous line-source, extending the nearfield coverage of the system over longer distance and lower frequencies. With a meter-long frontage matching the QR36 and QM36, the QB363 can be stacked in multiples to form bass arrays of up to, or beyond, 10m.
