Apart Audio debuts all-in-one matrix solution

The newest member of Apart Audio’s audio matrix family has been revealed by the Belgian manufacturer to be the AudioSystem8.8, an all-in-one rack unit designed for multi-zone multi-source applications such as hotels, offices, retail stores, sports centres and classrooms. With eight audio matrix speaker outputs (four stereo/eight mono) each with a built-in Class-D 30W digital amplifier, as well as an additional four line outputs, the matrix is truly an all-in-one device.

Aside from the integrated amps and comprehensive selection of outputs, the unit also features four built-in FM tuners and either four or eight (stereo or mono) line inputs. Occupying a 1U rack space, the system comes preconfigured with four stereo inputs and four stereo output zones. Other connections include a paging mic input, ports for up to eight DIWAC wall control panels, an ethernet connection and a remote emergency ‘mute all’ control input. Additionally, the unit is compatible with 100V audio systems.

Control of the device can be achieved via the integrated ethernet connection or connected wall controllers. When connected through ethernet, the web server-based graphical interface can be configured by the main user/installer to set up and control the system. By installing DIWAC wall controllers into each zone, staff members can also directly control the system as needed.

In order to cater for the more commercial environments such as retail stores or other public areas, the unit has been equipped with an emergency ‘mute all’ connection. In these environments it is expected that a store’s individual audio system will be connected with the building’s central PA. In this instance, the emergency messages coming from the central audio system will overrule the music in the shops as required. Furthermore, the unit features all-call paging functionality and a party mode. Party mode simply syncs music between zones, effectively creating one-large super zone if needed, while the paging option provides the ability to transmit a system-wide message to all of the connected controllers.

Paired with the manufacturer’s Zone4, selective paging functionality and the ability to control two mics in the zones can be achieved.  Should users require complete DSP, selective paging and other microphones, zone combining, message playing and the option to control other hardware, the unit can be paired with the manufacturer’s AudioControl12.8.
