Audinate and NTP announce Dante enabled audio router

Based on Audinate’s Dante technology, NTP Technology has released the Penta 725 IP audio router, designed to interoperate with products of other brands that support Dante networking.

The Penta 725 enables audio routing over IP based gigabit Ethernet with linear PCM audio quality and a reported sub-millisecond latency.

Housed in a 1U 19-inch chassis, the Penta 725 IP router supports a capacity up to 1024 x 1024 cross points with 64 bi-directional channels over IP, 64 AES3 I/O channels, and six optical Madi or router connection interfaces.

Audinate states that Dante delivers ‘no-hassle,’ self configuring, plug-and-play digital media networking which the manufacturer claims ‘future-proofs’ implementations by providing a ‘migration path’ to upgrade to new emerging A/V standards.

Audinate has also announced the availability of its new Dante virtual soundcard (V3.2.0) for Mac OSX 10.7 Lion. Designed so more users can access the application, the new soundcard supports both Windows as well as Mac 64 operating systems.

Available for download from the Audinate website, the V3.2.0 software allows a users PC or Mac to connect directly to a Dante audio network using the computer’s Ethernet port to communicate with a network of other Dante enabled devices. A key feature highlighted by the manufacturer is that the new soundcard can transmit and receive up to 64 channels between networked audio equipment and audio applications such as Nuendo, Cubase, Logic and Pro Tools 9.

Once installed onto a computer or laptop, no special hardware is required. As the card has no physical audio inputs or outputs, audio signals are sent directly to or received from the PC's Ethernet network interface card.
