Aimed at each end of the frequency spectrum, B&C Speakers has begun shipping its new 21DS115 subwoofer and DE990TN and DE1090TN compact high frequency drivers. The subwoofer features a new longer, four layer aluminium voice coil that reportedly results in ‘higher sensitivity, lower distribution and better overall performance’. The two new HF drivers aim to provide designers with a larger diaphragm but in a more compact enclosure. According to the manufacturer, the larger diaphragm results in a ‘wider frequency response, lower crossover point, and higher power handling’.
The 21DS115 features a 30mm-long, 116mm (4.5-inch) diameter copper-clad aluminium wire voice coil. With an AES power rating of 1,700W, 99dB sensitivity and over 16.5mm of Xvar, the new subwoofer’s performance is approaching that of B&C’s 6-inch voice coil alternative.
In terms of the new HF drivers, the DE990TN features an 86mm (3.4-inch) CCAW voice coil with an optimised phase plug and full titanium diaphragm. The inside ring neodymium magnet is mounted in a 118mm diameter package that is reportedly similar in size to typical 64mm (2.5-inch) diaphragm HF drivers. The DE1090TN features a 100mm (4-inch) CCAW voice coil mounted on a full titanium diaphragm and features an inside ring neodymium magnet. Mounted in a 127mm-diameter package, the DE1090TN is stated to be similar in size to a typical 3.0-inch (75mm) diaphragm HF driver.
