Following the introduction of the cardioid subwoofer array (CSA), the B4-SUB is d&b audiotechnik’s first subwoofer to realise its patented design of a unique cardioid technique using one channel of an amplifier.
The B4-SUB enclosure houses two long excursion neodymium drivers: the first is a 15-inch driver in a bass-reflex design facing to the front, while the second is a 12-inch driver in a two chamber bandpass design radiating to the rear. The design is intended to reduce unwanted levels behind the cabinet by more than 15dB over its entire operating bandwidth, while providing accuracy in low frequency reproduction extending from 40Hz to 150Hz.
Each channel of a d&b D6 or D12 amplifier drives up to two loudspeakers with the B4. An M20 threaded flange in the top panel accepts a loudspeaker stand, while two runners extending from the front to the rear of the bottom panel fit to correspondingly shaped recesses in the top to aid stacking. Weighing 44 kg and producing 128 dB SPL and 131 dB SPL when driven with the D6 and D12 respectively, the cabinet comes with a pair of handles, four wheels on the rear and an optional transport lid all in an enclosure measuring 476mm x 580mm x 800mm. Firmware and software updates provide B4-SUB configurations for all current d&b amplifiers and R1 Remote control software V1.8 which also supports the subwoofer.
