CMS range expands

Tannoy has extended its range of CMS in-ceiling speakers with the addition of the CMS 1201DC large format model, which incorporates a 12-inch dual concentric point source driver and a treated mid-bass cone with double-rolled cambric surround for high sensitivity.
Also included in the design is a 1.34-inch aluminium dome with a ferrofluid cooled Neodymium magnet assembly and a newly designed waveguide for the high frequency unit.
With the high frequency unit mounted in the throat of the mid-bass, Tannoy states, the two drivers merge into one, aligning both transducers to a point source that results in a uniform response over a controlled 90° coverage area. The result is reportedly even beam width delivery and pattern control over a wide frequency range.
The CMS 1201DC can be specified in distributed designs, in which the number of devices can be minimised over a given area, reducing installation time and cost. Meanwhile, its powder-coated steel back-can has been internally dampened with 11m OSB2 board. According to the manufacturer, the design is intended to reproduce a performance on a par with conventional wooden enclosure loudspeakers. Steel mounting lugs also allow for fitting to a Unistrut roof rail system in a variety of configurations both directly or via secondary prefixed cross struts, while the device can be hung via four top-mounted eye bolts. Alternatively, installers can opt for a single point central hang via M10 or 3/8 UNC screwed rod, using the slotted mounting saddle on the top of the back-can.
The CMS 1201 is available in both a standard low-impedance variant (CMS 1201DC) and a low insertion loss 60W line transformer-equipped version (CMS 1201DCt) for use on 70V or 100V distributed lines. Various standard tappings are configurable on the transformer.
