Community introduce new range of ceiling speakers

The series is comprised of seven coaxial loudspeakers; the 60W D4, the 100W D5, the 100W D6, the 150W D8, the 200W D10, the 60W D4LP and the 200W D10SUB. The compression driver is concentrically located throughout the range, providing dispersion up to 16kHz.

Community’s new Drop-Stop feature provides spring-loaded legs, which support the back-can on the included rails and C-ring, so that the installer no longer needs to hold the can against the tile while tightening the clamps. If the loudspeaker back cans are pre-installed to a conduit system for termination at a later date, the product’s new Twist-Assist locking system allows the baffle and loudspeaker assembly to be self-supporting while the installer fastens the screws to the can.

The Distributed Design Series incorporates Community’s patented Carbon Ring Cone Technology, which increases the effective surface area of the cone. All models in the series comply with ETL standards, including UL1480, UL2042 and CSA665. Each model is available as a complete unit with everything needed for standard installations. The drive unit, the face plate assembly and the back-can can be purchased separately.

The manufacturer has also expanded its VLF Series of subwoofers with the re-introduction of the VLF218 at NAMM 2011.

Joining the existing VLF208 and VLF212 models, the newly updated VLF218 is a dual 18-inch subwoofer system. It features power handling of 1,600W continuous, (4,000W program) and sensitivity of 99dB/W/m. Additionally, the drivers may be configured internally to be driven by a single amp (1,600W at 4-ohms) or by dual amplifiers (800W at 8-ohms each).

The VLF218 uses a combination of techniques to keep voice coil temperatures low to avoid power compression that causes reduced output at higher volume levels. Using a proprietary method known as Active-Air Cooling, the motor structures of each driver are situated inside of the port where the outside moving air actively removes heat from the assembly. Additionally, cone movement drives air through the vented magnet pole-piece to cool the motor structures further.

BCL (Balanced Cone Loading) improves the linearity of the system by balancing the front and rear air loads. The 3rd harmonic distortion at 40V (50 per cent power) averages less than 1.9 per cent over its operating range, and the enclosure has strong internal bracing to reduce sound energy losses from enclosure vibration.

Standard units are fully outfitted with pocket lifting handles, corner ‘hand truck’ bar grip handles, tour grade casters, top and bottom stacking cups and rubber feet. Standard available options include front and rear Seat Track, pole sockets, custom colours, and fibreglass covered versions.
