DAS gets vertical with SX-218A

Targeting portable applications requiring bass reinforcement for mid-high systems, DAS Audio has launched a vertical format, powered subwoofer system named the SX-218A. The unit is a high power bass-reflex subwoofer system comprising twin 18SXN 18-inch low frequency transducers with neodymium magnet assemblies and a 1,800W Class- D amplifier.

The vertical format of the SX-218A, coupled with the new AXS-convert12 accessory, makes the system suitable for use with Convert 12A systems, stacking the full-range boxes on the SX-218A to form a small to medium scale main system.

The SX-218A incorporates a switch mode power supply, digital signal processing and a cardioid preset mode switch within the amplifier. Additionally, the amplifier includes two balanced inputs (A-B) with stereo filtered output connections for satellite systems. Meanwhile, a variable low pass filter ranging from 100Hz to 160Hz, a gain control and a polarity reverse feature increase user control over the system. A passive version for use with external amplification (the SX-218) is also available.

The SX-218A enclosure is built from birch plywood finished with durable ISO-Flex black paint, and employs extensive internal bracing eliminating sound coloration and augmenting durability. Two wheels are located on the rear of the cabinet for portability, and a screw-in pole mount located on the top panel provides flexibility when using full-range satellite systems.
