Dual-mode K-DSP Series from Audiocenter

Targeting both the portable sound reinforcement and installation markets, Audiocenter has unveiled the K-DSP Series, dubbed by the manufacturer as ‘two active loudspeaker solutions in a single, affordable package’.

The K-DSP family is comprised of the K-DSP08, K-DSP10, K-DSP12 and K-DSP15. Each model uses a different multipurpose enclosure to contain 8-, 10-, 12- and 15-inch high performance woofers. While the larger models stand out by delivering proportionally deeper LF extension and a higher SPL, all units have been designed to produce a common ‘signature’ Audiocenter sound by featuring five on-board preset EQ response curves – named Factory, Linear, Hyped, Vocal and Ext Sub.

When in ‘stand-alone’ mode, K-DSP works as a ‘plug and play’ solution for musicians, A/V rental companies, DJs and live sound production applications. A user can plug different sound sources into the two-channel onboard digital mixer, select the most appropriate EQ response curve from the five available factory presets, and then set the necessary output level gain. The K-DSP loudspeaker can then be utilised as an ‘all-round’ solution for any application where professional sound definition and maximum ease of use are required.

Meanwhile, when in ‘networked mode’, the K-DSP series units each offer a DSP board, high resolution AD/DA converters and 65KHz signal sampling. The series also boast 64-bit, (managing both the on-board two-channel digital mixer with two discrete gain) 10-band multi-parametric EQ, limiter and delay DSP blocks and DSP signal optimisation, in addition to crossover and protection limiters for LF and HF amplifiers.

This DSP board also incorporates a network card that allows the K-DSP units to join an Ethernet LAN that can be managed from a single or multiple PCs. The operator’s PC runs a specifically-developed AOC drive control software.

The command control point can monitor the presence and network link of all units connected to the network, create groups, modify their LAN identity or IP address, read input activity at the input of each networked unit, edit all EQ and limiter settings and can save and load presets into the DSP internal memory to or from a PC connected to the K-DSP LAN.

These Networked Mode features are particularly beneficial to contractors and entertainment A/V integrators for live performance venues, as the loudspeakers can be adjusted by level and tonal response providing zone-to-zone room compensation DSP, all controlled from a central command position or moving about the installation with a wireless network connection.
