Electro-Voice targets mobile and fixed installs with ZX1-Sub

The passive ZX1-Sub is the latest member of Electro-Voice’s compact and lightweight ZX loudspeaker family, and is a product intended for both mobile and fixed installations. Although conceived primarily for configurations involving Evid, ZX1 and EVU systems, the manufacturer insists that the new sub will also optimise system performance when paired with loudspeakers from other brands.

‘Precision-engineered components, high power-handling capacity and a well-balanced sound’ are cited to be the sub’s key features, which can be attributed to its EVS-12S 12-inch woofer that operates in the 42Hz to 200Hz (-10dB) frequency range, all the while boasting a frequency response of 53Hz to 125Hz (-3dB). In addition, the subwoofer claims a nominal impedance measurement of 8-ohms and a maximum sound pressure level of 127dB.

Weighing just 19.8kg, the portable ZX1-Sub’s two recessed Speakon NL4 (2) connectors are wired in parallel, permitting the input signal to be looped through – making it possible to operate full-range loudspeakers such as the ZX1 together with the ZX1-Sub using a single amplifier channel.

The unit employs a 15mm-thick internally braced wooden enclosure with two side handles, while a structured coating and a steel grille provide further protection for day-to-day use.
