Environmentally friendly diffusers from Auralex
Published: PRODUCTS
Auralex Acoustics has created a series of diffusers using bamboo as an environmentally friendly alternative to using traditional hardwood.
Dubbed the Sustain Bamboo Sound Diffusor Series, the range comprises the WavePrism, WaveLens, QuadraTec, Peak Pyramid Diffusor and KeyPacs.
The WavePrism diffuser has been designed to eliminate flutter echoes and other acoustical anomalies, boasting a closed box design. It can be dropped into a suspended ceiling grid or wall mounted using mechanical fasteners. Meanwhile, the WaveLens is designed to scatter and redirect acoustical energy, optimising existing absorption panels. Similarly, the QuadraTec’s design provides scattering properties, offering two diffusion tools that, when used in combination with each other, reportedly result in a more spacious feel.
The Peak Pyramid diffuser also acts as a bass trap when filled with absorptive material. Finally, KeyPacs are magnet-based panels that have the ability to mount to Auralex ProPanels or Studiofoam. Available in three configurations ― 9 Hole, Bubble and Star ― KeyPacs are designed to fine-tune any absorption treatment and create a more acoustically balanced space.
The type of bamboo used in the production of each Sustain product grows quickly and is different than the bamboo that pandas and other animals use for food. The manufacturer is also keen to stress that the panels can aid a studio in achieving LEED certification.
Also new announced by the manufacturer are SonoLite fabric-wrapped StudiofoamPro panels, which are aimed at budget-conscious users, and StudiofoamPro Class A fire-retardant acoustical foam for use in studios, churches, restaurants and clubs.
