Expansions to Eidos range lead Outline launches

Italian manufacturer Outline is reaching across a number of sectors with its latest line-up of products, including expansions to its Eidos range of loudspeaker solutions. The company’s catalogue now boasts three new Eidos models, a new subwoofer and an iMode loudspeaker management system.

Intended for use in either fixed installations or mobile applications, the fully passive, coaxial Eidos X123W boasts a 12-inch transducer with a 3-inch compression driver for high frequencies. Described by the manufacturer as  ‘effective as a stage monitor or compact FOH system component’, the 19.2kg enclosure includes integral mounting hardware, offers a power handling capacity of 450W/1,800W (AES/peak), a frequency response (-10dB) of 55Hz to 20kHz and a peak SPL of 129dB. Its coverage is 90-degrees x 90-degrees.

In contrast, the Eidos 6.5 is a ‘super-compact’ loudspeaker intended for permanent installation, boasting a 6.5-inch LF transducer and 1-inch horn-loaded compression driver to produce a maximum output power of 119dB (peak SPL at 1m). According to Outline, it is particularly well suited to spoken word applications.

Designed as a passive two-way, 8-ohm device with an integral crossover network, the enclosure’s power handling is rated by the manufacturer at 200W/800W (AES/peak) with a frequency response of 65Hz to 19kHz and a peak SPL of 119dB. Weighing 7.5kg, its coverage angle is 100-degrees x 60-degrees.

Meant for more multi-purpose use, meanwhile, is the active Eidos 12 SP, featuring dual onboard Class-D power amplifiers and proprietary DSP control. The multi-angled enclosure incorporates a 12-inch woofer and a 1.75-inch diaphragm compression driver, and can be used for either on-stage monitoring or as a front of house component.

The Class-D amps deliver 350W and 180W to the LF and HF sections respectively, producing a maximum SPL of 127dB SPL at 1m, while the waveguide can be rotated through 90-degrees for stage monitor applications or as required. On the enclosure’s rear panel, end-users are presented with a choice of four DSP-controlled preset EQ curves, plus status indicators for signal, temperature and limiter activity.

Bringing some heavy-duty low-end to the list is the DBS 18-2i, a double 18-inch subwoofer boasting 6,400W (AES peak) of power with a maximum sound pressure level of 141dB SPL peak at 1m. It is specifically intended for permanent installation.

The sub includes Outline’s ‘decoupled baffle subwoofer’ assembly, which the manufacturer describes as contributing ‘to the structural integrity of the entire cabinet as well as reducing resonance and air turbulence noise from the reflex ports’. The 80kg sub’s frequency response is listed as 28Hz to 160Hz.

Finally, the manufacturer has unveiled the IP24 iMode DSP loudspeaker management system, which has been designed to ‘provide all the features associated with iMode technology to control external amplifiers and passive sound reinforcement systems’. The processor utilises twin compressor-limiters on each channel, plus delays, filters, polarity and more.

At its core, the IP24 boasts FIR/WFIR (warped frequency FIR) filtering, which is reportedly based on the same principle as the human ear by distributing the frequency resolution over a semi-logarithmic scale. The two inputs and four outputs can be configured in a number of ways depending on the application, while both inputs and outputs can run as either analogue or digital (AES/EBU). It can also be run via a PC web browser using Ethernet.
