Fairlight lets users do it their way

With tabletop configurations ranging from 12 to 60 faders, Fairlight’s Evo.Live digital audio mixing system has been designed to not only tackle demanding on-air and live productions, but to be the tool users return to after the event has finished. Primarily intended for use in OB trucks, houses of worship and broadcast facilities, the console aims to provide a completely reconfigurable UI by implementing the manufacturer’s processing and control surface technologies, such as Picture Keys.
Picture Keys works by self-labelling each task performed on the desk surface, displaying commands and functions on screen. The introduction of iCan (Integrated Control Across Network) technology also provides multiple users with independent access to their own set of faders, solos, channel selections and monitoring controls. An additional hot-swappable 2U FPGA-based audio engine can be integrated for increased system reliability.
Once the live performance has finished, the control surface can be reconfigured for postproduction use, with features including audio editing, video integration, plug-ins, automation and 3D surround panning.
The second generation of Fairlight’s audio engine has also been unveiled. Promising ‘unsurpassed track counts’ and support for immersive surround formats beyond 22.2, the CC-2 is based on the manufacturer’s Crystal Core Technology and is packed onto a single PCIe card.
Using FPGA-based technology, the system is able to provide 1,000 hard disk playback channels, 100 live inputs and 100+ output busses, and includes a new 64-bit codebase, delay compensation, and faster than real-time audio bouncing. EQ, dynamics, plug-ins and inserts are available on every input and bus (with ‘near-zero latency’). Additionally, the CC-2 is compatible with audio hardware purchased for the CC-1.
