Flat plane wave speakers from TOA

TOA Corporation’s newly released PW Series Plane Wave Speakers have been developed for use in public announcement applications which require narrow sound directivity, particularly railway stations where different announcements are made in close proximity.

Eight of the flat speakers are included in the PW Series including single or double-sided radiation models, compact or large size and two different colour options comprising black or light ivory. Each of the speakers is equipped with a plane wave unit consisting of a diaphragm, buffer, magnet, and case. This is intended to enable radiation of sound in narrow horizontal and vertical directivity patterns, delivering clear audio to a limited target area with minimal attenuation even in poor acoustic conditions.

A beam-tilting function has also been incorporated into the design, facilitating flexibility in installation by allowing users to shift the sound radiation direction approximately 5-degrees downward of the horizontal axis. Also onboard is a high-pass filter in which unwanted low frequencies below 450Hz are cut at -12dB/oct.

Finally, the metal parts of the plane wave unit and the speaker cabinet are made of stainless steel, while all of the models are IPX4 compliant and suitable for covered outdoor use.
