Fohhn unleashes the power of new subs

Fohhn Audio has introduced new 12-inch high-powered subwoofer models with the active XS-22, and active/passive PS-22.

The XS-22 active sub is a new addition to the German manufacturer’s X-Series compact range. Its 26kg weight and digital technology is intended to promote its use in a wide range of mobile applications. The subwoofer comprises a 12-inch excursion speaker, an integral 1,500W Class-D digital amplifier and DSP, and is capable of delivering a maximum SPL of 127dB. The integrated DSP also enables the subwoofer to be networked and remotely controlled.

Meanwhile, the new PS-22 active/passive subwoofers augment Fohhn’s Perform series and are particularly suited for flown applications involving beam steering. The subwoofer can be effectively combined with Fohhn’s Focus Modular beam steering series, together with conventional line array systems such as the Fohhn PT-8.  The high-powered active model is equipped with a 12-inch excursion speaker, integral 1,000W Class-D amplification and Fohhn Audio DSP. The passive model also features a long excursion 12-inch speaker (500W/8Ohm).

Both the XS-22 and PS-22 active subwoofers come with vented designs and can be used to build Focus Sub arrays in which multiple Fohhn subwoofers can be combined so that their beam characteristics can be controlled in real time via Fohhn Audio Soft software. The manufacturer claims that this results in powerful and precise reproduction of bass frequencies, more coverage and a reduction in the effects of unwanted room reflections.

The manufacturer has also launched Fohhn Intelligent Audio Distribution (FIAD), which is a fully digital networkable system comprising a master input/output module and digital FIAD active loudspeakers that are connected to the master module via a single Cat-5/Cat-7 cable.

The basic FIAD system offers a range of active loudspeakers each equipped with integral 2 x 300W Class-D amplifiers, DSPs, RJ-45 input and output connectors (for Cat-5/Cat-7 cable), plus signal LEDs for status, communication and signing. The FIAD Master unit comes with digital audio inputs (AES/EBU), digital FIAD-NET outputs, a central power supply feeding the active loudspeakers and Fohhn-Net connections for remotely controlling all connected FIAD-NET devices via laptop, Fohhn Audio Soft or an FR-10 wall / touch panel. Power, digital audio signals and remote control / networking information is transmitted via the Cat-5/Cat-7 cable. To ensure transmission of digital audio signals from a computer to the FIAD system without any reduction in quality, Fohhn’s new A-2 live digital audio interface provides a solution. The 2-channel USB interface has galvanically isolated AES/EBU digital outputs with XLR connection, ensuring that interference, hum, poor transfer quality and low output levels can be avoided.

Fohhn Audio is also  shipping its LX-220 high performance hybrid line source system, the latest addition to its Linea Series. The 2.2m, four-way loudspeaker has been optimised to provide the best possible sound quality for speech and live music applications in challenging acoustic environments where visual integration is also a requirement.
The LX-220 is particularly suited for larger rooms, and its slim design makes it suitable for use in a range of architectural settings including worship venues, conference centres and universities, whilst its aluminium housing lends itself for outdoor use.
