Fulcrum brings Passive Cardioid Technology to installs

Fulcrum Acoustic is looking to ‘dramatically reduce excessive rear low frequency radiation’ with its CS118 subcardioid subwoofer. Designed for permanent installations, the sub calls on the manufacturer’s patent-pending Passive Cardioid Technology to reduce this energy by 10dB reportedly without the need for additional drivers, amplifiers, or signal processing.

The unique element of this technology is that it does not require an additional amplifier channel or additional transducer to achieve its low frequency directional control. The CS118’s subcardioid pattern is created via an acoustical circuit balancing the LF driver’s position with the enclosure’s depth and volume, as well as rear ports incorporating a calibrated resistive element.

The other key technology deployed in the 756mm x 624mm x 762mm enclosure is the manufacturer’s TQ processing. TQ processing enables the CS118 to be combined with a variety of supported DSPs from a number of manufacturers to provide the subwoofer’s optimum performance.

In terms of the vital statistics, the CS118 features an 18-inch woofer with a 4-inch voice coil and ceramic magnet to deliver 136dB peak and 130dB continuous (half space) in a frequency range of 29Hz to 137Hz. The 54.4kg single amplified subwoofer has power handling of 1,200W at a nominal impedance of 8-ohms.
