Genelec adds to 4000 Series and launches GAIP

Genelec has launched the 4040A, a new model in its 4000 Series range of active two-way loudspeakers.

The new model, in common with the existing models in the series (the 4020A and 4030A), is designed for the professional installation market, while incorporating new features for use in applications such as larger conference rooms and auditoria.

The 4040A features a new larger tweeter and more powerful amplifier. Other features developed with systems integrators in mind include a lack of required rack-mounted amplifier, low heat load generation for fan-free cooling, and full circuit protection. According to the manufacturer, special attention has been given to minimising microphone feedback wherever possible via a controlled directivity pattern. However, the enclosure is reportedly equally suited to music reproduction and speech, with the company declaring that ‘the larger tweeter produces powerful, pitch perfect reproduction at the highest frequencies’.

Alongside the new loudspeaker, Genelec has recently unveiled the latest demo version of its proprietary audio-over-IP solution, named GAIP.

Previewed in 2010, GAIP has evolved over the over the last year through extensive R&D work. ‘We have continued to conduct an extensive research programme on the potential of GAIP,’ explained Genelec marketing manager Terho Savolainen. ‘The result is a solution based on standard technologies that delivers the best possible audio over IP technology for professional installation applications.’

GAIP is fully standards-compliant and can co-exist and co-operate as a part of other standards-compliant solutions such as Ravenna. It is also able to deliver an audio transmission that does not require a separate clock master device or any currently non-existing functionality in IP switch devices. Furthermore, GAIP is compatible with USB sound card support that exists in most computer platforms and operating systems.
