Greater levels of Xcellence from Master Audio
Published: PRODUCTS

The point source cabinets in Master Audio’s flagship Xcellence range have been upgraded to incorporate new amplifier and Ethernet-equipped DSP modules, bring them into line with the manufacturer’s line array units. As a result, the company’s entire range can now be deployed as part of a flown system while users of the point source models benefit from full remote control and monitoring.
The improved enclosures comprise the X12CE and X15CE coaxial active cabinets, the active, two-way X15LTE (intended for full-range FOH or monitors) and the X18WE subwoofer. The models were previously known as the X12C, X15C, X15LT and X18W respectively – the additional ‘E’ designation is intended to imply Ethernet connectivity.
The cabinet’s bespoke control protocol also supports connection over Wi-Fi for users running Master Audio’s DSP Studio software on a PC. The software allows access to parameters including gain (per-way), limiter, polarity, delay and five custom parametric EQs. An iPad version of the software is also due for release.
All of the point source models retain the same output power but according to the manufacturer their performance has been enhanced thanks to the addition of third-generation Class-D amplifier modules that do not employ HF damping networks.
