Multiple launches from Fairlight

Leading a wealth of new product releases from Australian manufacturer Fairlight is the latest version of its Dream software, including an ASIO bridge to offer ease of operation for new users, improved workflow and faster output. New features include mouse-based editing, a single screen interface with new mix panel choices and an optional multi-client ASIO bridge to host third party audio products such as Pro Tools and Nuendo.
Meanwhile, the iCAN (Integrated Control Across Network) is a customisation tool for use in all common DAWs and video productions. Fairlight’s Layout Editor allows the operator to drag-and-drop functions from a menu onto the Fairlight controller buttons, before calculating when they will appear. Designed as an open platform, iCAN connects a Fairlight controller to third party applications such as Pro Tools, Nuendo, Pyramix or Media Composer. User-defined key layouts of the Fairlight controller display the operators ideal set up for third party applications.
XStream is a compact desktop controller with picture keys on the control surface that self-label instantly for easy navigation with fewer keystrokes. The control surface reinvents itself for each performed task, presenting the commands at the right time. To enhance the mixing capabilities, XSTREAM can be specified with up to 24 touch sensitive motorised faders.
Quantum is a mid-size 12 or 24 fader media production console offering a fast mixing environment for A/V productions using HD picture quality for up to 192 audio tracks. Quantum can be fitted into a free-standing Fairlight-designed chassis or mounted into a table from US manufacturer TBC or the client’s own table design.
Pyxis 4K is a standalone or rack-mountable, turnkey video recorder delivering future-proof UHD video recording and playback, with extensive audio capabilities and workflow compatibility. Pyxis 4K records compressed or uncompressed video formats from SD up to 4K, and delivers transparent playback in up to 4K or dual-channel 2K resolution. For multi-screen video wall presentations, multiple systems can be synchronised for playback in up to 8K resolution.
Both DTS and Fairlight have jointly collaborated to produce the 3DAW, a 3D audio production platform with native MDA mixing and format support. 3DAW enables sound designers to mix object-based audio in unrestricted 3D space, and monitor on any configuration and output in DTS’ proposed future specification, MDA. Additionally, 3DAW will feature the ability to mix soundtracks for DTS Neo:X, a channel-based audio solution designed to support up to an 11.1 speaker system.
The MDA specification is currently being proposed to international standardisation committees as an alternative to today’s closed proprietary solutions. MDA allows every sound element of a soundtrack to be mapped in 3D space, storing all of the spatial and behavioural information of each sound element as metadata. Mixing audio with MDA as opposed to other surround sound platforms allows a soundtrack to maintain the exact spatial characteristics of the audio as intended by the mixer.
Available as a turnkey solution, 3DAW is based on Fairlight’s Crystal Core Media processor and software and is able to generate a range of mixes ranging from stereo, 5.1, 7.1, 9.1+2, DTS Neo:X, as well as an object-based mix (MDA).
