Neutrik goes wireless with Xirium X

German cable interface manufacturer, Neutrik AG, has introduced two brand new signal transfer hardware platforms. Xirium X provides wireless transfer of uncompressed digital audio signals, removing the need for cable connections, while OpticamSwitch routes camera signals in-between interconnection areas and control rooms.

The new Xirium X wireless interface uses DIWA technology to provide uncompressed, studio-quality wireless audio transmission. With no loss in quality over traditional copper cables, this allows the unit to be deployed for any pre-existing audio applications.

The system comprises the XTX transmitter and XRX receiver. The XTX is capable of transmitting up to four audio channels (by daisy-chaining an additional three XTX units), which can be received independently by an unlimited number of XRXs. The XRX can also be deployed as a true-receiver or function as a repeater unit. In repeater mode, a maximum transmission of two audio signals or one stereo signal is possible.

Modern television cameras are increasingly being equipped with fibre optic connectivity, using hybrid cables with both copper and fibre strands to transmit both the video signal and power to and from the camera. For this reason, the manufacturer has developed OpticamSwitch, a 1.5U rack device providing the ability to route signals from several studios to various control rooms connected with CCUs ‘at the touch of a button’ through LAN-based remote control software.

Studios can be reconfigured from a central computer through the control software. Switching and camera status is shown on-screen and various scenes can be saved, enabling reconfigurations to be executed quickly. In addition, the router can be integrated in broadcast control systems, including Evertz Magnum, BFE KSC Commander or LSB VSM Control.

Venturing back into its traditional forté, the manufacturer has released a lite version of the OpticalCon connector, intended as a cost-effective alternative to the OpticalCon Advanced. The unit is a lightweight, semi-rugged fibre optic connector compatible with all OpticalCon Duo Advanced chassis connectors, offering IP65 environment protection and a similar push-pull locking mechanism as Neutrik’s other connectors. The OpticalCon Duo Lite forms the first product in the OpticalCon Lite series.
