Pioneer introduces its first active reference speakers

Pioneer has introduced its first active reference speakers, the S-DJ08 and the S-DJO5.

Designed for DJs and producers, the manufacturer claims that high sound quality and flexible features make them suitable for professional studio needs.

The S-DJs are equipped with a 10cm high-force magnet and a low resonance chimney-style heat sink. The speakers connect music production and DJ set-ups directly to an integrated bi-amp circuit, which drives the tweeter and the woofer independently. The shape of the tweeter and sound axis results in wide directivity so sounds can be picked up wherever the user is positioned. They also include a total mute function to preserve volume settings.

Settings can be changed using an external manual controller; a built-in linear equaliser enables users to fine-tune the frequency to suit their activity, while an input switching function enables movement between four separate sources. The S-DJs enable changes in settings through one controller where volume, muting the speakers, switching audio inputs, and turning the EQ on and off can be done from one location. The speakers also feature a built-in linear equaliser, which adjusts the frequency characteristics in the low and high bands from -6 dB to +6dB without the need for an extra sub-mixer.
