Polaris Evolution goes immersive

Polaris Evolution by Salzbrenner has received a number of upgrades with its 1.5 release, most notably the integration of 3D audio.

The integration of 3D audio processing in Polaris Evolution allows manipulation of sound objects in a three-dimensional space by modelling sound sources realistically for an immersive audio experience. The 3D Audio Integration proceeds from the routing of input sources and their object-based assignment to the usual signal processing to solid positioning in the auditorium, regardless of listening positions. This three-dimensional positioning or animation of audio objects can be undertaken during a live session or in advance.

While immersive audio leads the 1.5 release, there are also a number of other improvements that have been made. The Polaris Evolution user interface has been revamped to provide direct access to relevant channel parameters. The UI can also be extended with an external meter bridge using a tablet.

Furthermore, Polaris Evolution now offers an extended Copy function. According to the manufacturer, all parameter settings (such as input routing, inserts, sends, EQ and faders) can be applied to any channel collectively and in one step.

The manufacturer states that ‘Aux Swap helps to implement even the most sophisticated setups’. One keystroke accesses the Sends-on-Fader function which manages the addition or deletion of sends as well as send level adjustment. The Aux Swap function is also applicable to matrix bus sends.

The entire graphical user interface by Fraunhofer-Institut für Digitale Medientechnologie IDMT has already been integrated into Polaris Evolution, therefore the mixing console is now not only able to display its own DSP channels, but also external equipment.
