Second generation X-Line family boasts ‘unprecedented performance-to-size-ratio’

Described as offering ‘unprecedented performance-to-size ratio for installed and concert sound applications’, Electro-Voice has unveiled the next generation of its compact X-Line line-array loudspeakers. Two models are the X1 12-inch and X2 12-inch high-performance vertical line-array elements.
X1 is targeted at small-to-medium applications, such as houses of worship, local rental companies and club and entertainment venues. It houses an SMX 12-inch woofer coupled to an ‘E-V exclusive Mid-Band Hydra device’ that aims to emulate the acoustic behaviour of a double line of four 3-inch point sources. The manufacturer claims that this delivers ‘perfect mid-band coupling of the array while maintaining the efficiency and power of 12-inch transducer’.
The HF section of the X1 incorporates two ND2R ring-exit high-output 2-inch titanium compression drivers coupled to a pair of Wavefront-shaping Circular Hydra (WCH) constant energy planar wave generators on a 90-degree waveguide. The waveguide is optimised for an extended and linear response, and by attempting to remove wave distortion, ‘maximises the acoustic output with in-phase summation past 16kHz.
A captive twist-lock multi-angle arraying system has been designed to facilitate rigging of the arrays. The system can be setup with fixed-angles locked by using secondary rigging pins, or via the compression method by using a pull-up kit.
X2 is designed to provide higher SPL capability, extended HF frequency response, and a linear LF output, making it better suited to larger houses of worship, concert and touring events, and sports venues. In addition to the Mid-Band Hydra and integrated rigging system shared with the X1, the X2 benefits from a ‘higher output, lower distortion’ DVN3125 neodymium woofer coupled to a Mid-Band Hydra device. The HF section features two ND6A high-output 3-inch titanium compression drivers matched to a pair of Advanced High-Frequency Hydra constant energy planar wave generators on a 90-degree waveguide – providing in-phase summation to 20kHz.
Both models have input panels housing dual Neutrik NL8 connectors for faster connectivity, and utilise E-V’s proprietary FIR-Drive optimisation technology.
