SmartAV has reportedly improved on the feature list with the launch of its next generation audio workstation controller, Tango 2. According to the manufacturer, the upgrade improves upon workflow efficiencies and allows for greater control and customisation capabilities.
The new feature set for Tango 2 includes: Long throw silent pushbuttons; OLED displays on all programmable buttons; the ability to switch the input of the LCD screen to the DAW display; six programmable GPI input/outputs; a sliding keyboard tray that retracts into the body of the controller; and fully customisable graphics that utilise programmable colour grading control.
Each of Tango 2’s eight channels has a dedicated Hold button; 100mm touch sensitive motorised fader; inject touch point; mute button; solo touch point and touch sensitive encoder (24 DPI with Detents and a Push Button). The Smart Console Expert Panel is retained on the left of the console, with dedicated automation and ARC modifier controls, as well as grouping.
The Console has a built in mouse pad for workstation control, above which lie dedicated transport and locator buttons, a jogger wheel with modifier buttons, and dedicated cursor and selection buttons. The unit also features a 22-inch wide (16:9) touch screen.
While the latest changes to the Tango are functional as well as cosmetic, the physical size and footprint of the system will remain the same.
With communication via a single 100Mbit Ethernet cable, Tango 2 can reportedly be used to control DAWs including Nuendo, Cubase, Pyramix, Logic Pro, ProTools, Vegas Pro, FinalCutPro and Digital Performer 7.
Tango 2 software will be compatible with the current Tango system, allowing most of the future software revisions that are not hardware dependent to be available to existing Tango 1 users.
