World’s ‘narrowest 12-inch line array’ from Voice Acoustics

Described as ‘probably the narrowest 12-inch, 1.4-inch line array worldwide’, the Ikarray-12 is now shipping from Voice Acoustic. The system boasts a total width of 60.5cm, aiding truck-packing, though the German manufacturer is keen to stress that the main focus of the Ikarray-12 development was achieving ‘even coverage and linear frequency response, even off axis’.
Within each enclosure is a single, horizontally-mounted 12-inch B&C woofer, plus a 1.4-inch exit high frequency driver (also sourced from B&C). Crucially, the HF section is coupled to ‘double-twin waveformer’, a custom waveguide that splits the source into four beams, while a newly developed V-plug is mounted in front of the low-mid transducer to segment the large membrane into two sections, shifting the acoustic centre outwards.
In terms of hardware, the system offers a spindle mechanism for angle adjustments between a number of cabinets, plus the manufacturer’s ‘One-Point-Electro-Rigging-Frame’ (OPER), enabling very precise angle adjustments via a remotely controlled servomotor assembly, when the system is flown. The locking pin connections are also recessed into the body of each enclosure to create a sleek finish.
For power, up to eight Ikarray-12 elements can be driven with a single Voice-Acoustic HDSP-4 DSP amplifier in bi-amp mode. Self-powered versions are also available.
Turning to another section of the company’s catalogue, custom colours are now available for the Alea-4 range of 4-inch, extremely compact enclosures. Measuring 134mm in height and width and just 150mm in depth, the speakers can reportedly be finished in any required colour and style, encompassing both bi-colour and tri-colour designs.
In terms of performance, each enclosure has a frequency range of 100Hz to 18kHz, with 80-degree x 80-degree coverage and ratings of 60W / 108dB (AES), 90W / 110dB (program), and 180W / 112.5dB (peak). Components comprise a 4.5-inch neodymium transducer with a 0.75-inch voice coil. For mounting, three M10 points are incorporated plus a swivel bracket.
