XY Series brings portable cabs to Pioneer range

Pioneer Pro Audio recently demonstrated its XY range of cabinets at a special event in Singapore, outlining how the smaller PA range for portable use and installation is designed to work alongside the larger GS-Wave dance stack system. The line-up includes the 8-inch XY-81, 12-inch XY-122, 18-inch XY-118S sub and the XY-215S double 15-inch sub.

The XY-81 is a two-way assembly comprising an 8-inch ferrite woofer and 1-inch neodymium compression driver, offering 90-degree x 60-degree dispersion with a rotatable horn for horizontal installation. Rated at 91dB sensitivity with 350W RMS power handling (700W program), the enclosure has a maximum SPL of 116dB continuous and 122dB peak. The cabinet boasts nine M8 mounting points (four on top, four on its base and one on its rear) plus four M6 points on its rear for wall mounting. A pole-mount socket is also included.

Meanwhile, the XY-122 contains a 12-inch neodymium-loaded woofer and 1.4-inch neodymium compression driver within its birch plywood enclosure and boasts a reported 101dB sensitivity. Power handling is 400W RMS (800W program) with a maximum SPL of 127dB continuous (133dB peak). Its dispersion is again 90-degrees x 60-degrees, while hardware comprises a total of 14 M10 mounting points, four M8 points for wall mounting and a pole-mount socket.

The ferrite-loaded, 52kg 18-inch XY-118S subwoofer promises a frequency response of 35Hz to 150Hz with a 97dB sensitivity, 1,000W RMS power handling (2,000W program) and a maximum SPL of 127dB continuous (133dB peak). Finally, the double 15-inch XY-215S is described as a quasi-bandpass subwoofer with a frequency response of 42Hz to 160Hz. Power handling is rated at 800W RMS (1,600 program), while maximum SPL is 131dB continuous (137dB peak). Housed in a birch plywood enclosure, it weighs 71kg.
