Intelligible audio, inside and out at Taqwa Great Mosque

INDONESIA: The recently opened Taqwa Great Mosque, found in Kutacane in the Aceh Province, can accommodate a total of 6,000 worshippers. Spanning 2,700 sq-m, it is now the largest mosque in the region and when at its capacity sees 4,000 people inside and an additional 2,000 outside.

With a surface area of such a size to cover and an interior design that features high ceilings and plenty of reflective surfaces, the installation team tasked with providing the audio solution had its work cut out for it. The team comprised Kairos Multi Jaya and Multi Electronic Terrain, and the challenge they faced was to provide a system capable of excellent speech intelligibility and providing clear audio coverage throughout, without affecting the aesthetics of the building’s design.

The sound system was designed and implemented around an Allen & Heath Qu-16 compact rackmount digital mixer alongside an iDR-8 matrix processor. This setup provided the solution required, delivering the capability to manage the audio distribution throughout the mosque, while also offering flexible zoning options.

‘The sound produced can be heard equally at all points by all worshipers inside the building,’ noted Mr Karuna, a member of the engineering team at Kairos Multi Jaya. ‘The Allen & Heath mixers provide the best clarity and ease of use possible. The result is quite amazing.’
